Lanvin is one of fashion’s real heritage brands.  Creator Jeanne Lanvin was just 22 when she set up a small hat shop in Paris, but her reputation quickly grew seeing her take a commercial lease on Paris’s Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and establish her label just four years later.  Once there, Lanvin had instant success; Parisians flocked to Lanvin (Mademoiselle Jeanne) Modes.  In 1897, just 8 years after first establishing her business, Lanvin gave birth to her daughter Marguerite and this changed her brand forever.  Marguerite became her muse; Lanvin would use luxurious fabrics to design her daughter the wardrobe of her dreams.  Mothers of Marguerite’s friends became her customers as demand grew for her children’s wear.  In 1908, Lanvin dedicated a section of her store to children’s clothing and by 1909, orders for her children’s designs far exceeded that of her hats.  The success of this made Lanvin rethink her brand strategy, and she quickly opened a young ladies and womens department, so that mothers and daughters could choose their pieces together.  She offered a wide range of clothing for full occasion dressing, everything from day clothes, evening dresses, coats and lingerie.  The Lanvin house was further expanded in 1913, when Jeanne paired up with architect-decorator Armand-Albert Rateau to create a pavilion dedicated to living offering furniture, rugs, curtains, stained-glass and much more.  By 1923, and the opening of Lanvin Sport, Jeanne Lanvin had twenty-three ateliers and over 800 employees; the twenties were certainly roaring for the Lanvin house.  From this point, the Lanvin house went on to conquer the world, opening stores in San Francisco and Germany, holding a fashion show on the SS Normandie’s Maiden Voyage to New York and branching out into Fragrances in 1924.  Menswear quickly followed in 1926, making the Lanvin house one of the first to offer a full experience, from clothing, to homeware and accessories. Jeanne Lanvin passed away peacefully in 1979, leaving a lasting legacy behind her.

In 2011, children’s wear was relaunched by the Lanvin House, harking back to Lanvin’s history and experience in children’s clothing. Today, under the watchful eye of Bruno Sialelli, Lanvin continues to go from strength to strength. 

Lanvin kids today offers a vast array of mini-me styles inspired by the adult collections, with everything from Lanvin t-shirts, to sweatshirts and tracksuits, from babies to teens.
